Carmel-by-the-Sea
For tasting menus, see the Michelin guide — Aubergine and Chez Noir live there. For walk-in bistro nights: La Bicyclette does wood-fired country French, Anton & Michel sits in a courtyard with a long list, and Dametra Café is the Mediterranean room with live mandolin that ends up on every itinerary. Casanova is the older-school institution near the beach. Mission Ranch at the south edge of town does honest steaks looking over a sheep pasture and the ocean — Clint Eastwood owns it.
Pebble Beach
Resort dining inside the gate: Stillwater Bar & Grill on the 18th green at The Lodge for a long lunch with the ocean in view; Roy's at Spanish Bay for sunset bagpipes and Hawaiian-fusion plates; Pèppoli for Tuscan; Beach & Tennis Club for breakfast over the cove. Reservations needed; the gate doesn't slow guests with a confirmation number.
Monterey & Cannery Row
On the wharf and Cannery Row, the food trends touristy. The tighter picks are downtown: Montrio on Alvarado for solid New American with local seafood, Bistro Moulin for tight French in a tiny room, and Old Monterey Café for an unfussy breakfast. Pacific Grove
Passionfish for sustainable seafood and a fair list. Fandango for Mediterranean by a fireplace. Pacific Grove sits over the hill from Monterey and stays calmer; the seven-block downtown on Lighthouse Avenue is walkable.
Big Sur
Nepenthe for the view-on-a-cliff lunch nobody forgets — pair with a Big Sur day-trip (itineraries here). Sierra Mar at Post Ranch Inn is the tasting- menu dinner for an anniversary. Big Sur Bakery does honest pizza and pastries on the drive down.

For a tasting-menu night, we pick you up 30 minutes before your reservation, drop you at the door, and park nearby. Pre-arranged return — text the driver, car pulls up in three minutes. For a full day that ends in dinner (a 17-Mile Drive or Big Sur loop), the same car stays through dinner so you don't have to think about it.
